Rebates and government initiatives for speech pathology services

a) Private Health Insurance

Speech pathology services in Australia are covered by private health extras. Private health policies vary and we suggest that you check with your provider to determine your level of cover.

 

b) Medicare Rebate (Enhanced Primary Care)

Children with complex and ongoing needs may be eligible for 5 Medicare funded sessions under the Enhanced Primary Care Plan. This program is only for children who have chronic care needs and is initiated by your General Practitioner. For more information please talk with your GP or visit the website www.health.gov.au.

 

c) Medicare Helping Children with Autism Rebate

Children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may be eligible to claim a specialised medicare rebate up until the child turns 13 years of age. This program is initiated by your Paediatrician. For more information please contact your paediatrician or visit the website www.health.gov.au/autism.

 

d) Helping Children with Autism (HCWA)

Children who are diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder are eligible to access up to $6000 per financial year (up to a total of $12000) for early intervention programs, up until the child turns 7 years of age. Chatabout Speech Pathology has been approved as a member of the Early Intervention Panel and can provide services for families who would like to use their FaHCSIA funding. e) BetterStart for Children with Disability Funding

Children who are diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Fragile X Syndrome, and moderate or higher Hearing Impairment are eligible to access up to $6000 per financial year (up to a total of $12000) for early intervention programs, up until the child turns 7 years of age. Chatabout has been approved as a member of the Early Intervention Panel and can provide services for families who would like to use their BetterStart funding.
