“Speech” refers to a person’s production of sounds and ability to talk clearly. Speech difficulties in adults often causes stress and anxiety, which can affect work and social interaction.

Adults who have difficulty talking clearly can improve their intelligibility with practise once the type and nature of the difficulty has been identified by a speech pathologist.

The reason someone’s speech may not be clear could be due to:

  • Speech difficulties present since childhood
  • Medical issues such as head injury or stroke
  • English being a second language
